Standup comic and actress
Shelley Bennett takes us on a
bizarrely funny journey from
Santa Claus, Indiana to a
mosque in Egypt and into the
many ironies of a Hollywood
career.

Along the way she encounters a
cast of quirky characters who
reflect the bigotry, guilt and
loathing that affect us all in a
post 9-11 world.

I Was Greta Garbo

The enigmatic film star, Greta Garbo, is back! Adored by millions she walked away
from it all. Complex, yet simple. Gorgeous, yet haunted. Courageous, yet shy and
reclusive. This is the enigma of Greta Garbo. Now, she who wanted to be alone,
returns to allow one last look into her beautiful, mysterious life. Comedy and
tragedy intermingle on Garbo’s journey to self-discovery. She rose to stardom but
the trappings of success almost destroyed her sense of self and well-being. Her
longing for love and spiritual meaning stayed with her to the very end.

Ms. Rolandsson wrote this one-woman show at Garbo’s gravesite, in Stockholm,
Sweden, where the star also was born. The first version of the play was
commissioned in 2005 by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, which did an exhibit
of unique photographs of the immortalized actress. The award-winning actress
Finola Hughes is directing the newest version of the show, with Ms. Rolandsson as
Garbo.

Actress/artist Hariette Garellick Deutsch will exibit paintings of Greta Garbo
and other theater inspired works.

FEBRUARY 9, 10, 11 and 12 at 8 P.M.
